Governor’s Office: Hawai‘i Ramps Up Effort to Vaccinate 81,000 People This Month At an afternoon news conference, Governor Ige, Health Director Dr. Elizabeth Char, and other stakeholders laid out the first steps of Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 vaccination effort. This includes plans to distribute an expected 81,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccinations in December to high-risk health care workers and long-term care facilities across the state. Governor’s Office: Furloughs for State Employees Start January 1, 2021 In an e-mail to state employees, followed by an afternoon news conference, Gov. David Ige announced two-day-a-month furlough starting January 1 of next year, to balance the state budget. The state is projecting a $1.4 billion budget shortfall in the general fund for each of the next four years. “If the furlough is effective for one year, the state will save about $300 million. Office of the Governor: Kaua‘i’s Temporary Moratorium on State’s Pre-Travel Testing Program Gov. David Ige has approved Kaua‘i Mayor Derek Kawakami’s request to place a temporary moratorium on Kaua‘i’s participation in the state’s pre-travel testing program. Effective this Wednesday, at 12:01 a.m., all transpacific and intercounty travelers arriving in Kaua‘i are subject to the 14-day quarantine regardless of testing. Gov.
