Hawaii SMART Health Card

The Hawai‘i Safe Travels program ended on 03/25/2022 at 11:59 p.m. HST. As a result, the Hawai‘i Safe Travels digital platform, found on travel.hawaii.gov, is no longer available.

The Hawaii SMART Health Card application, which was found on the Hawai‘i Safe Travels website, is also no longer available. Those who saved their Hawaii SMART Health Card as a screen shot on their mobile device, Apple Wallet, Samsung Pay or CommonHealth app will still have the ability to show their QR code and have their information verified when scanned by the business who uses the verifier app.

Businesses who wish to continue using the Hawaii SMART Health Card to further verify vaccination information, may use the SMART Health Card Verifier by The Commons Project. The verifier app can be downloaded to any Apple device (iPhone or iPad) or to an Android device to scan the QR code. https://thecommonsproject.org/smart-health-card-verifier. In order for a business to successfully read a QR code, businesses should make sure they have strong Wi-Fi connection and make sure they are using The Commons Project SMART Health Card Verifier (all other verifier apps will not work).

All of the information stored in the Hawai‘i Safe Travels digital platform is subject to the State’s records retention schedule, which is 3 years after the end of the program. When the Safe Travels platform goes offline on March 26th, the existing data will be secured, encrypted, and stored off-line in a safe manner. After 3 years, the data will be destroyed. We are planning to make a version of the information, with all personal information removed, available for research purposes in the future, for example, visitor trends during the pandemic.
