Some businesses may require or encourage the wearing of masks. Masks are also strongly recommended while indoors and when you are unable to maintain physical distancing.

Know the Risks

Lowest risk: Virtual-only activities, events, and gatherings. Modern technology is a great way to stay emotionally close when we’re physically distant.

More risk: Small outdoor and in-person gatherings. Participants should wear masks whenever they are indoors and if it’s difficult to maintain physical distancing.

Highest risk: Large in-person gatherings where not everyone is wearing a mask.

Take it outside: It’s safer to gather outside in the fresh air than inside your home. If you plan on gathering, consider using your yard or the neighborhood park instead of your living room.

Keep your distance: Maintaining distance lowers the risk of transmission. Put down blankets, pillows and chairs strategically to maintain physical distance.

Serve food safely: Instead of setting out food or passing it around, provide individually packaged meals or bentos.

Share safety tips: Remind your friends and ‘ohana about the importance of masks, vaccines and physical distancing.

At Work

Keep Your Distance: Physical distance is just as important in the workplace as it is while running errands or gathering socially. Remember, when possible, maintain physical distance between you and your co-workers.

Use Technology: When possible, take meetings or touch base with colleagues over video chat in order to minimize face-to-face contact.

Mask Up in Common Areas: It is strongly recommended everyone wear a mask in common areas and where it is difficult to maintain physical distance. Wearing a mask lowers the risk of transmission.

Keep it Clean: Always disinfect shared items and surfaces — such as lunch tables — after each use. Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched items — such as keyboards, cash registers, equipment, and anything else touched by other employees or customers. Do not share these items between employees unless instructed by your supervisor or workplace.

Post signs: Remind employees and co-workers of recommended practices during the COVID-19 pandemic: wearing masks, staying up to date on COVID-19 vaccines, staying home when sick, maintaining distance and keeping the workplace clean and sanitized.
