As the number of COVID-19 cases has declined in Hawai‘i and healthcare providers have pulled back from running large vaccination and testing clinics statewide, there are still many options available for residents to get their vaccinations, boosters, and COVID-19 tests.
“COVID-19 vaccines are still readily available across the state. Large operations that could accommodate hundreds of people a day have closed, but vaccines are still easy to get at pharmacies, community health centers, doctor’s offices and elsewhere,” said State Epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Kemble.
All Hawai‘i residents age 5 and above are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.
The DOH is following CDC and FDA recommendations for use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for those age 5 and older. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are available to those age 18 and older.
To locate a vaccination site in your community, use the interactive map at https://hawaiicovid19.com/vaccine/.
You can search listings by site and by county, by pop-up events, by sites for children ages 5-11, or by clinics.
“We’re hoping the worst is behind us, but the pandemic isn’t over. Omicron and the Omicron subvariant BA.2 are still circulating,” Dr. Kemble said. “Getting vaccinated and boosted will reduce your risk of becoming seriously sick if you are infected.”
Since COVID-19 vaccines became available in December 2020, more than 3,000 mobile clinics have been held statewide. Approximately 300 vaccination providers have supported the COVID-19 program.
More than 800 school-based clinics have been held to vaccinate our keiki.
Thanks to the efforts of hospitals, pharmacies, and Federally Qualified Health Centers across the state, an estimated 76.9% of people in Hawai‘i have completed their primary vaccine series. That’s one of the highest rates in the nation. But that still leaves an estimated 330,000 people unvaccinated.
Getting vaccinated not only helps protect you from becoming infected or seriously ill from COVID-19 it also helps protect those around you. For more information, please visit https://hawaiicovid19.com/.
